Bed bug treatment cost in the UK has no single national price. The councils we checked in October 2026 charge from free to £362 a treatment. Private prices depend on the work in the quote.

What councils charge (checked October 2026)

Council fees are the only dated, public prices we can point to. Each row comes from the council’s own page. Also, charges change, so check the council page before you book.

Two points stand out. First, the same pest costs very different amounts from one council to the next.

Therefore, a council fee is not a guide to private prices. Councils set their own charges, and not every council treats bed bugs.

Why a national average misleads

Two quotes called “bed bug treatment” can buy very different work. One may cover a single bedroom and one visit. Another may cover nearby rooms, two visits, monitors and a written warranty. As a result, one average hides the detail you need.

Therefore, this guide does not publish made-up price bands. A future cost report should rest on dated, documented quotes, with the home type stated clearly.

The main price drivers

Extent and rooms: signs in one bed area mean a smaller job, because signs across several rooms need more work. Haringey, for example, adds £60 for each extra bedroom beyond its 3-room fee.

Heat, spray or steam: which costs more?

We cannot give a fair ranking, because no dated public price list compares them.

However, we can say what to ask.

Does the price cover the whole affected area, or one room? How many visits does it include? Will the firm re-check and return if bugs remain? A method label alone tells you little about value.

What “bed bug fumigation” means

People searching for bed bug fumigation cost often mean any professional treatment. The Health and Safety Executive uses the word more narrowly. It defines fumigation as pest control using special gases, called fumigants, to kill pests. HSE says fumigants can poison or suffocate people if used incorrectly, so fumigators must be competent and properly trained.

A fair way to compare quotes

Because scopes differ, ask each firm to put the following in writing.

1. Which rooms and items it will inspect and treat.
2. The signs that support that scope.
3. The method and products included.
4. The number and timing of visits.
5. Prep and re-entry rules.
6. How it will monitor and prove the result.
7. VAT, travel, parking and extra-room charges.
8. Warranty length and exclusions.
9. Deposit, cancellation and refund terms.
10. The firm’s name, address and how to check who you are dealing with.

Council and tenancy routes

GOV.UK says to contact your local council to find out if it offers pest control. A fee may apply, and the offer is local, not national. GOV.UK’s council finder is listed as available in England and Wales only. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, check your council or the Northern Ireland Housing Executive directly.

Avoid false economy

Repeat DIY buys, binned furniture and missed work can cost more than a proper check. Even so, a costly method is not always the right one. Spend first on a clear diagnosis and scope. In the end, the quote should explain what the price is meant to achieve.
